Disease Resistance for Bovines
It is all too easy for a sick bovine to pass along parasites or a virus to other members of the herd. Culling may be an option for a bovine that cannot otherwise be treated by a veterinarian. However, by that time the infection may have already spread to other growing calves, cows, and breeding bulls. Preventative care can help support the needs of calves, cows, and bulls and reduce the need for more serious medical intervention.
Bovine Vaccinations
Why is vaccination important for bovines? Adult breeding cows need protection from certain bacteria and viruses that can lead to serious health issues like immune suppression or systemic illness. Female cows pass on their antibodies to their calves through their colostrum. Calves are entirely dependent upon this layer of protection from their mother and require vaccinations after weaning. A breeding bull will need to be vaccinated to reduce its potential for getting sick and passing it along to other cows in the herd. Vaccinations may be required at different times and to address different purposes. Vaccinations often include:

Vaccinations can be given before the breeding season, and be followed by a booster shot. A period of time often elapses between the initial vaccination and the booster. Some vaccinations like Covexin® 8 may also offer additional benefits like tetanus protection.
Bovine Parasite Prevention
Bovines are susceptible to other illnesses that can be easily addressed by our veterinarian. Deworming and delousing options are available to improve the general health of an animal and eliminate internal parasites.
